Carol Martin Named 2026 MAPT Special Education Paraprofessional of the Year

The Minnesota Association for Pupil Transportation (MAPT) proudly recognized Carol Martin of Rehbein Transit, serving Centennial Schools, as the recipient of the 2026 Special Education Paraprofessional of the Year Award during the annual Train the Trainer Conference in St. Cloud.

The award recognizes bus paraprofessionals who demonstrate outstanding dedication, compassion, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to ensuring students with special transportation needs travel safely each day.

For the past 10 years, Carol Martin has exemplified the very best in special education transportation. Primarily serving early childhood students while supporting multiple shuttle routes throughout the Centennial School District, she has earned a reputation for creating a calm, structured, and supportive environment where every student feels safe, respected, and understood.

Carol's patience, empathy, and student-first approach have made her an invaluable member of every transportation team she serves. Whether working with preschool students or older learners with diverse needs, she takes the time to build trusting relationships while understanding the unique needs of every child on her bus.

Known for her reliability and team-first attitude, Carol is often the first to volunteer when transportation challenges arise. She willingly adjusts schedules, fills in on unfamiliar routes, and supports coworkers wherever needed, ensuring students experience the consistency and care they deserve.

Beyond her daily responsibilities, Carol has become the standard by which new bus paraprofessionals are trained. New employees frequently ride alongside her to learn best practices in student management, communication, safety awareness, and teamwork. Her calm demeanor, extensive route knowledge, and ability to anticipate challenges have made her a trusted mentor throughout the organization.

Her dedication has earned recognition as Employee of the Month and consistent praise from Early Childhood staff for her compassion, professionalism, and exceptional care of students with complex needs.

In her nomination, colleagues noted that many drivers would choose Carol as their first choice for a special education route because of the confidence, reassurance, and teamwork she brings to every trip.
