Train the Trainer 2026 Draws More Than 300 Transportation Professionals to St. Cloud

More than 300 school transportation professionals from across Minnesota gathered in St. Cloud July 20–22 for another successful Minnesota Association for Pupil Transportation (MAPT) Train the Trainer Conference, three days dedicated to professional development, networking, and advancing student transportation safety.

Hosted at the St. Cloud River's Edge Convention Center, the annual conference brought together transportation directors, trainers, drivers, mechanics, dispatchers, school administrators, and industry partners to share ideas, strengthen skills, and prepare for the upcoming school year.

This year's conference featured an outstanding lineup of educational sessions covering a wide range of topics facing today's transportation professionals. Attendees participated in presentations on leadership development, dispatch operations, driver training, crash scene management, student behavior, special transportation needs, and school bus safety, along with hands-on learning opportunities designed to strengthen training programs across Minnesota.

One of the conference highlights was Wednesday’s keynote speaker Jim Schiffler, a leadership expert, keynote speaker, and author guided by his motto, “It’s all good.” Schiffler encouraged attendees to view challenges as opportunities for growth, emphasizing resilience, optimism, and the power of perspective. Through his coaching approach, he inspires individuals and teams to embrace life’s ups and downs while building a path toward success through positivity and purpose.

Another major highlight was keynote speaker Ross Bernstein, an award-winning author and nationally recognized speaker, who shared powerful lessons on leadership, trust, communication, and building winning teams. Drawing from interviews with more than 500 professional athletes and coaches, Bernstein challenged attendees to think differently about leadership and the importance of creating cultures built on relationships and accountability.

The conference also featured Minnesota's annual vendor trade show, where attendees connected with industry partners to learn about the latest products, technology, equipment, and services supporting school transportation.

While learning remained the primary focus, the conference also provided plenty of opportunities to build relationships. Monday evening's Networking & Fun Night, sponsored by Hoglund Bus, I-State Truck Center, Midwest Bus Parts/Quality Bus Parts, North Central Bus & Equipment, and United Bus Sales, brought attendees together for an evening of conversation, games, and friendly competition. The popular cornhole tournament once again proved to be a conference favorite, creating new friendships and strengthening connections among transportation professionals from across the state.

During the conference, MAPT also recognized outstanding individuals whose leadership and dedication continue to elevate Minnesota's pupil transportation profession. Awards were presented to transportation professionals who exemplify excellence in safety, leadership, service, and commitment to students.

"Together, they help ensure Minnesota's transportation professionals return home better prepared to safely serve students and their communities."
